This and that

Its saturday morning! Usually, i enjoy my weekends very much. But of late, i have been experiencing this weird thought process that prevents me from enjoying my weekends. Here's how it goes

Friday Morning - Yeay! Its almost the weekend!!!

Friday Evening - OMG friday is almost over

Saturday Morning - Its already Saturday! The weekend is ALREADY HERE. Which means its going to be over SOON

Saturday Evening - HALF THE WEEKEND IS GONE

Sunday - Work tomorrow :(:(:(

So thats how i ruin my weekends for myself :D

School is coming along fine . Last week, i got to experience celebrating CNY in a traditional chinese school and it was a very different experience i should say. The celebrations started much earlier for us teachers, when we had to go for a mini workshop on chinese calligraphy, so that we could write properous words for good luck. According to the chinese teachers, i have a natural flaire for calligraphy :D I am not kidding! If you are fortunate enough to come visit my table in the staffroom, you'll see my masterpieces!

The concert itself was fun too. As always, the performing arts groups never failed to impress and i was very happy to see many of my students on stage. Such a talented bunch. With so much of passion and enthusiasm for their CCA. Now if only they could translate this passion and enthusiasm to English and Social Studies ;)

Since this year, Valentine's Day fell on the same day as CNY, we had a mini Valentine's Day gift exchange in class. I was happy to know that many of the students really put in alot of thought to buy something nice for their mortals. For those who did not, its still ok. For one, i don't know how the student's financial situation would be like and hence i don't want to impose anything. On the other hand, if the student just did not buy anything because he/she cannot be bothered, then there's nothing for me to say as well because i cant quite force someone to do something they don't want to do :) (Unless its homework). But overall, i enjoyed the first period with my form class. I hope they enjoyed the strawberry cheesecake i bought. Only a few students said anything about it, so i don't know if everyone enjoyed it. And 3D, you better not take my treats for granted! They'll only come on very rare occassions!

The first month

How time flies. It feels like it was just yesterday that i graduated from NUS. Now, i have already finished my one year of training in NIE and have just completed my first month as a teacher. Honestly, i think i am blessed, for various reasons.

Firstly, i love CCHY. When i first came to this school months ago, for my practicum, i was filled with fear. The horror stories from my professors about students who make their teachers cry kept floating through my mind. But teaching in CCHY turned out to be a real joy. 3D/3G/3H/4B1 '09 were wonderful classes and each lesson with them was an enjoyable experience (except for when i had to repeatedly chase them for homework :d)

And this year, i am extremely fortunate to have gotten another set of wonderful students.

3D - My precious form class. Although they drive me up the wall with their incredibly lame jokes (BOOMZ, Maggi Mee etc), i completely adore each and every one of them. They are so full of life, and each one special in their own way. I look forward to all my lessons with them and they never ever fail to make me smile. And despite the typical stigma associated with the D classes, i think i have gotten an incredibly smart bunch of students :) I hope THEY will realise it for themselves soon.

3E - Another class with a 'fantastic' sense of humour and spectacular pronunciation skills (BIRTH). Ive told Ms Goh repeatedly, i LOVE teaching your class. And its true. Each SS lesson with 3E is fun in its own way and i love how responsive the students are to all the questions (Although sometimes pure rubbish tends to come out :D)

3F - Class filled with a bunch of jokers. I particularly think my SS Rep is a very adorable boy. The first student to have ever treated me to bubble tea :D On the whole, going to 3F is fun, especially with their new tiger theme. I love orange! So walking into 3F is such a treat for the eyes

3B - This is one of my favourites! They are super mischevious, extremely noisy and drive me crazy, and yet there's just something about them. I don't know if its the ridiculous things they say or the crazy jokes they make, i just enjoy teaching them. But its sad that alot of them hate social studies. I hope over time, they will grow to like it. :)

4E - My one and only sec 4 class. I dont think i have really bonded with them, mostly because i dont get to see them much, but im slowly getting to know them better. Going to the army musuem today with them was fun, and i realise alot of the students in 4E have a very good sense of humour. Its a pity they tend to be very quiet in class, especially when Mdm Sue is there. They are really scared of her. Not scared of me tho! :)

My colleagues are another reason why i love the school. Very helpful, very patient and a great deal of fun! I couldnt ask for more.

So there. The reasons why i enjoy school so much and a peep into my first month at CCHY :)
